Welcome to the Shepard's Pie Marketplace. Grab yourself a cup of latte and enjoy browsing through our pages of Folk Art, Primitives and Antiques.
We feature affordable Primitive Goods and are always going to
auctions to look for new Primitive Wares. We have been busy this summer searching for the right affordable candle to offer as our own.
Our logo for the candles is wonderful and features a smilin' black cat!
Our "Black Cat Candles" will be available in September!
Our Antiques are at the bottom of the Service page below
the Reproduction Folk Art Collectibles. We just came back from
an auction with a few new pieces, make sure you take a look!
My Mother and I, named our online store Shepard's Pie after an old New England recipe. On our About Us page...we share this wonderful recipe with you. We hope that you not only enjoy this delightful dish of comfort food...but also enjoy shopping with us and the products we have to offer you.
We have many good friends that share the same passion for primitives and Simple Goods as we do. Make sure you stop by and take a look at their shops. You can click on their links at the bottom of the Service page.
Anytime you have a question about your order or our
products, email us and we will respond back to you within a few days.

Penny Rugs
During the Civil War era, homemakers in the 1800's would recycle scraps of wool, usually from old clothing or blankets to make these decorative rugs. The homemakers would use a coin, usually an old penny, as a template for cutting the scraps of wool into different sized circles. (That is how Penny Rugs got their name.) After each circle was cut, it was then stitched by using a blanket stitch. The backing usually consisted of material such as old feed bags or burlap. Penny Rugs were not normally used for floor coverings.
One can almost see an early housewife sitting by the fireplace on a cold, snowy winter's day, selecting and cutting out woolen fabrics with her penny template. The fabrics of old wool laying across her lap. Her child napping on the rope bed beside the fire. A kettle of soup cooking on the wood stove, waiting for her husband to return from hunting. Once she is done with her Penny Rug she will use it to decorate her mantel, or maybe
even a bed or a table.
